Sophomore receives EPA Presidential Award
Congratulations to Sanjana Shah for receiving the EPA-sponsored President's Environmental Youth Award at the White House this August. Sanjana earned the award based on her exemplary development of a Flood Sensor when she was a Freshman. Read more about the award.

Helmet Game: Friday 9/23
Hey Monta Vista! Are you ready to face off with Cupertino High in the annual Helmet game? Head out to Cupertino High School this Friday, September 23, 2016 to watch MV claim the helmet, and bring FRIENDS! JV starts at 4:30 and Varsity at 7. Tickets are FREE with your ASB Card, and only $5 without. Make sure to show your Matador pride by wearing purple and gold; Protect the Helmet T-shirts which will be sold on Thursday and Friday at lunch in the rally court!
SNL 2016: 9/30 and 10/1
Monta Vista Saturday Night Live 2016 is here! Join us for a night of laughs hosted by Mr. Recktenwald and Mr. Pelkey and sketch performances by Monta Vista students! Performances are Friday, 9/30 and Saturday, 10/1 at 7pm in the auditorium. Advance tickets are $8 for the Friday performance,
$10 for the Saturday performance and $12 at the door both nights if we don¹t sell out beforehand. Buy your tickets online at www.seatyourself.biz/montavista or during lunch in the rally court. Last year we sold out so buy your tickets in advance to guarantee you get to see the show!
Homecoming Week: Oct 3-8
Monta Vista Homecoming takes us to... Disneyland! Each day we will celebrate a different class at a new land: Monday we will head off to Adventureland to celebrate 2018, Tuesday to Tomorrowland for 2019, Wednesday to Carsland for 2020, and finally we will go to Fantasyland on Thursday for 2017!
Dress up all week:
Monday - Safari (bucket hats, camo, fanny packs, vests, hiking boots, binoculars)
Tuesday - Futuristic attire (star wars, metallic, robotic, technology)
Wednesday - America themed (USA, red, white, blue)
Thursday - Formal/Fantasy attire (formal clothes, princess dresses, prince clothing, crowns)
Friday - Class colors (2020 lavender, 2019 white, 2018 gold, 2017 purple)

Homecoming Alumni Walk
If you are an alumnus from MV, head out to the Homecoming Football Game on October 7th to represent your graduating class! The alumni will walk during halftime with your graduated peers.

For Senior Students and Parents: Sept 17th, 10am - 12pm
For Junior Students and Parents: Sept 24th, 10am - 12pm
For Freshmen & Sophomores and Parents: Oct 1st, 10am - 12pm
Syrous Parsay will provide a detailed overview of the application process, and how to lessen the stress of getting through it all. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis only. No photography, please. Please plan to arrive early with pen and paper for notes!
Join other parents and community members at Parenting Courses at the MV Career Center from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. The first series this school year will be taught September 12, 19, and 26 (please attend all three classes) in Mandarin. The second set of classes will be taught in English from September 29 to November 9th (please attend all seven session) on Wednesdays in the Career Center from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. College Essay Workshops
Attention College Bound SENIORS: Are you so busy that you don’t know when you will write your College Admission Essay? Do you want help from a highly qualified FUHSD English teacher or Counselor? If so, the Fall College Essay Workshop might be for you! In partnership with the City of Cupertino, we are offering after school workshops for five weeks in Late September and October. The classes meet after school from 3:30 to 5:30, one day a week, at different schools in the district. The cost is $130 per course, but both full and half scholarships are available for eligible families. Look on the district website for registration materials, or speak to a guidance counselor for more information. The courses fill up quickly so be sure to register at the Quinlan Center in Cupertino by Tuesday, September 13 using this registration form, for your best chance at getting a seat.

Seniors win Hackathon Grand Prize
Congratulations to Karan Mehta and Anish Krishnan (class of 2017) for winning the $20,000 Grand Prize at the AT & T Shape Hackathon this July. They created a public safety an alert system app called Watchdog. Read more in the Mercury News.

Newsweek has published a list of the top 500 high schools in 2016. MV is ranked at #16 based upon a formula which includes graduation rates, college enrollment rates, AP/ACT/SAT participation and scores, and the number of counselors at a school. Way to go, Mats!
