Grit Award

Our AVID program is happy to announce that this year we're going to be offering a Monta Vista AVID 12 student a new scholarship we are calling The Grit award! This scholarship is awarded to an AVID senior who has shown ongoing individual determination and resilience throughout their high school career, demonstrated by their proactive approach of significant academic and personal challenges. The Grit Award recipient embodies the spirit of the AVID program, has worked to establish strong and positive relationships with peers, teachers, and staff, and continually strives for personal growth. The Grit Award honors the recipient's commitment to the AVID program and intention to attend a four-year college or university upon graduation. The scholarship amount can be used by the student to pay for college expenses.

Our AVID expert, Josh Maisel, has set up an account where you can help us collect money for this scholarship. We'd love to collect as much as possible for our scholarship recipient. A really neat part of this is that a former board member has offered to match our gift, increasing the scholarship amount for the recipient. Please let Jackie or I know if this is something that interests you and we can walk you through the next steps. Our donation window is open until May 1st. Also, your donation is tax deductible :)

You can either make a donation to our specific Monta Vista recipient (by mentioning it as a comment when you donate) or to the district general fund (which will be divided into 4 for each of the schools involved). Here's where to donate: Fremont Union High School District's AVID page.

"I'm not the perfect student, but I try hard. I don't feel like I'm the role model or the star. I'm just showing that it's possible."
