Sophomore receives EPA Presidential Award
Congratulations to Sanjana Shah for receiving the EPA-sponsored President's Environmental Youth Award at the White House this August. Sanjana earned the award based on her exemplary development of a Flood Sensor when she was a Freshman. Read more about the award.
Back to School Night
Back to School Night is on Tuesday, September 6th, from 7 to 9 PM. Parents should print their student schedules from the Infinite Campus Parent Account, then plan to visit each class for 10 minutes according to the student schedule. Student volunteers and staff will be present to help guide parents to classrooms. Please consider carpooling or walking, as parking is limited.
Join other parents and community members at Parenting Courses at the MV Career Center from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. The first series this school year will be taught September 12, 19, and 26 (please attend all three classes) in Mandarin. The second set of classes will be taught in English from September 29 to November 9th (please attend all seven session) on Wednesdays in the Career Center from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. PSAT is Coming - October 15
The PSAT (for 10th and 11th grade students only) will be offered on Saturday, October 15th at Monta Vista. Stop by the Career Center or ASB office to grab an information guide from Ms. Cao or Mr. Wong! Picking up the guide does not register you for the PSAT, but you can read all about the test. PSAT Registration begins 8/29 and ends 9/9. Register for $25 with Mr. Wong in the ASB Office. Questions should be directed to Mr. Martinez or Ms. Pedone in the Main Office.

The Cupertino Educational Endowment Foundation is sponsoring a 'Run for Great Schools' on August 27th. The 5K run is for all levels and also included in the event is a fun run for children ages six and under. All net proceeds from the event will benefit the 19,000 students of the Cupertino Union School District.

Seniors win Hackathon Grand Prize
Congratulations to Karan Mehta and Anish Krishnan (class of 2017) for winning the $20,000 Grand Prize at the AT & T Shape Hackathon this July. They created a public safety an alert system app called Watchdog. Read more in the Mercury News.
Newsweek Top 500 Schools - #16
Newsweek has published a list of the top 500 high schools in 2016. MV is ranked at #16 based upon a formula which includes graduation rates, college enrollment rates, AP/ACT/SAT participation and scores, and the number of counselors at a school. Way to go, Mats!
